» THE PARIS CLUB ART EXPERIENCE« EN 08. PARIS – NEUF PARTIES Paris, that’s the Seine, the Eiffel Tower, the City of Love... when you look at the big picture. But what happens if you break this picture down into its composite parts – more precisely into nine individual parts? The images that emerge still bear the soul of Paris and yet stand for themselves. The cloud-covered sky, the bench under the tree, the riverside balustrades, the lamp posts? ... Is that even Paris anymore? Or do the nine images represent something completely different? Suddenly, the picture deconstructs itself and in its individual parts tells us much more and possibly quite different stories than the clichéd whole – depending on eye of the beholder. For some, the top of the Eiffel Tower may be transfigured into a lighthouse in the North Sea. Others may perceive the deep blue sea in - stead of the Parisian sky. And we realise: cutting the image into nine parts and viewing each one individually separates the image from the motif and allows it to develop a life of its own. Each of the nine pieces is suddenly suffused with its own stories and interpretations – this is represented by the writing cases the images are printed on. They’re open for personal notes and impressions, allow - ing you to sketch and capture your own image of Paris or the world. And thus, “PARIS – NEUF PARTIES” demonstrates the degree to which individuality shapes the whole. In the broadest sense, it addresses social questions regarding the nature of the individual and the collective and shows us that a harmonious big picture emerges from diversity, not from uniformity.
